I Will Delight...

Delight.
That's it.
That's what is missing from my life with Christ.

But I have so much to do, so much on my mind. I don't have time to be silly...
"I know," says God. "Delight in me anyway."

Our life in Christ feels like work.
It makes us sober and steadfast.
We spend time praying and studying and meditating.
None of these makes us laugh.

But, like in God Himself, we can have so much more.

He says to us:
"Giggle. Run to me with abandon. See the wonder in everything. Touch everything.
Here I am. Reach for me.
I delight in you, too."

Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.--Matthew 19:14
Unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.--Matthew 18:3
Here is my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen one in whom I delight.--Isaiah 42:1

Life does not always make me happy.
But, reaching for Christ, and the life He has planned for me in Him, well, how can I not smile?
Has God made you giggle lately?

  1. We sometimes forget that our sense of humor is just a little bit from His!! He delights in us, so let us delight ourselves in Him. Oh, I just love His words when He tells us how He rejoices over us with singing! Visiting via Sandra's.
Much love and a blessed Sunday

    1. I forgot that our sense of humor comes from God, too. Thinking now about that old observation about the giraffe and the ostrich. Sense of humor, indeed.

  2. Splendid post, Mrs. P!

Back when I actually 'met' Jesus, that gentle spirit of laughter (not so much the LOL kind but an underlying sort of "always there") pervaded every encounter...

    Thank you for reminding me!

    1. Why do we lose this? I wonder whether it is like the first blush of romance compared to marriage? Still, the blush can return, in both cases.

  3. Oh, what a good reminder, to giggle with God! He assuredly does have a sense of humor, and there have been times I was aware that we were having a private joke together. And delight is such a wonderful word. I did a little study not long ago, finding out (via concordance and Bible digging) what delights Him. And well, it was delightful!

    1. Yes, there are certain things we can do that delight God. Sometimes, it's hard to think of Him grinning in response.

  4. I like your writing...and I so agree that we need to understand that aspect of delight in our relationship with the Lord. I need that reminder. I found you on UBP, and I invite you to link up to my new blog hop starting May 3rd on Bible Love Notes. Bless you, Gail

  5. What a great reminder. I do not giggle and run with abandon anymore...and I'm not totally sure why. Time? Fear? Thank you so much for this reminder.

    1. A few years ago, someone posted a board in the lunchroom of the school where I taught asking, "What would you do if you weren't afraid?" I think about that often. It had lots of contributors.

  6. Oh Mrs. P, this is so convicting for me. I think I've forgotten to delight. Joy yes, but that's different from giggling and running. I've been missing it...and God brought me here to remind me.

    Joyfully,
    Pamela

    1. Yes, joy is different from giggling delight. I'm beginning to think that the giggling is good for us, whereever we spend it.

  8. Joanne, I've been reading a book called 'God in the Yard' which has been taking me outside several times a weeek to just stop, look and listen. Then write down what God tells me. It has been a delight and is a baby step in the direction I think He's speaking here through you...delight in ME. That's it.

    Great post.
